News about young people who heartily responded to the call of the Workers’ Party of Korea grabbed the headlines all the year round.

According to information available, more than ten thousand young people across the country volunteered to work at difficult and labour-consuming sectors of the national economy after the Eighth Congress of the WPK.

Officials of the youth league were at the forefront of them.

Kim Yong Min, who worked at the North Phyongan Provincial youth league committee after being demobbed and graduated from a university, volunteered for a youth sub-workteam of the Taean Cooperative Farm in Taegwan County, true to the Party’s intention to ease food shortage, Pak Song Rim, who worked at the youth league committee in Onsong County, for a branch farm of a farm which stood last in the county and Kim Chung Song, who was an official of the Ryonggang County youth league committee, for a youth sub-workteam of the Okto Cooperative Farm in the county.

Following their examples, more than 140 and 80 young people in Nampho and Jagang Province respectively rushed to mountains, seas and development areas, and over 260 young men and women in South Hwanghae Province found themselves at cooperative farms in the province.

Some time later, university graduates in different parts of the country volunteered as teachers at schools in the revolutionary site in the area of Mt Paektu, frontline areas and mountain villages and on remote islands.

Amidst the growing enthusiasm of young people for volunteering, the Tenth Congress of the Kimilsungist-Kimjongilist Youth League opened in Pyongyang on April 27.

The congress reaffirmed the conviction and pledge of millions of young people, who are absolutely faithful to the Party’s leadership and try to fully demonstrate heroism and valour in the implementation of the Party’ cause, and discussed and decided important problems arising in boosting the Korean youth movement onto a new developing stage.

In the letter titled Demonstrate to the Full the Might of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League on the Historic March Towards a Fresh Victory in the Revolution he sent to participants in the Tenth Congress of the Youth League, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un said that a period of opening-up in the Korean revolution is connected with the beginning of the youth movement and a period of great upsurge always coincided with the heyday of the youth movement and that the Party wants to wage a struggle to attain such a daring goal in the present situation for the sake of our young people and as it believes in their ardent aspiration and inexhaustible strength, giving them great trust.

In retrospect, young people in the 1950s and 1960s, who performed a miracle of Chollima in history, kept the socialist and communist ideal as their faith and built the most advantageous socialism on this land in the spirit of fortitude.

Upon receipt of his letter, young people responded to it with higher enthusiasm for volunteering.

Among them were orphans who started out in life after graduating from middle schools and grew up in the embrace of the Party, university graduates who breathed the same breath with the Party while keeping youthful dream and ideal, former innovators and young people who made a new start in life.

This year’s Youth Day was unusual.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message to reliable young people, who volunteered to work at difficult and labour-consuming fronts of socialist construction, and met those, who made a new start in life in the most difficult and hard posts for the country’s prosperity, full of gratitude to the motherly Party and socialist system which embraced and trained them for the prosperity of the country, and had a photo taken with them.

Greatly encouraged by the love of the Party that brings up children to be heroes embracing them in its bosom without selecting good and bad, their volunteering enthusiasm heightened after Youth Day celebrations.

Those living in the capital city replaced their citizen cards with certificates of vounteer and went to a livestock farming base in the Sepho area, socialist rural areas, coal mines, mines, mountains and seas.

Stories about their deeds are told one after another to the end of this year.

In late November alone, more than 200 young people in South Hwanghae Province and over a hundred young men and women from the Ministry of Railways voluntarily went to difficult and labour-consuming sectors, Choe Kum Chol, who worked at the youth league committee of Jongphyong County, found his way into the goat farm in the county, Ri Kyong Sim, Ri Hyon Jong and Sin Hyang Sim, who worked as instructors of the Children’s Union at different senior middle schools, volunteered as farmers of the youth workteam of the Oguk Cooperative Farm.

Such news and their enthusiasm for volunteering, which were conveyed throughout the year while fully displaying the spirit of the Korean youth, gave great encouragement to local people in their efforts to bring about substantial change and progress in socialist construction this year, the first year for the implementation of a new five-year plan.
