China is pressing ahead with preparations for the 24th Winter Olympic Games.
President Xi Jinping learned about their preparations on the spot on January 4. As he looked round a gymnasium, press centre, training base and elsewhere in Beijing, he said that the most important work in preparing the upcoming international sporting event is to take proper preventive measures against COVID-19 and stressed the need to strictly impose double airtight controls and take perfect anti-epidemic steps at each sports ground.
The Chinese government is working to hold thrifty, safe and excellent Olympics with the emphasis of the preparations placed on intensifying the anti-epidemic work and ensuring the successful organization of games.
Guarantees are being provided one after another for effectively stemming the spread of the malignant pandemic and protecting the health and safety of all the participants and residents in relevant local areas during the event.
The construction projects for sports grounds and infrastructure have been completed, the service and supply system established and all kinds of trial games played.
The national speed skating rink symbolic of the forthcoming Olympics is called an ice ribbon house as it is surrounded by 22 beautiful ribbon-shaped curved glass walls.
The Beijing-Jangjiekou high-speed railway was constructed as one of major projects for facilitating traffic and opened to traffic, and the Beijing-Chongli expressway was also completed.
The public security organ and relevant sector are organizing work scrupulously to ensure the personal safety of the participants.
The Olympic torch lit in Greece arrived in Beijing, the torch stick was opened to public and preparations for the ceremony of relaying the torch are going on as planned.
The national swimming centre, the national gymnasium and the like have been refashioned and are getting ready to receive players.
