U.S.-Grown Diplomacy- “Sanctions Hysterics”

Date: 19/01/2022 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

When many people were greeting the New Year with hope and expectation, 24 U.S. former diplomats including former ambassadors to Russia and high-ranking officials issued a statement calling for the sanctions list to be made public soon, which is to be applied by the U.S. against Russia in case of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Chairman of the Information Policy Committee of the Russian Federation Council exposed the fact that the statement issued by the U.S. politicians calling for the sanctions list against Russia to be made public is aimed at the rupture of security negotiation between Russia and the U.S.

As already known, the U.S. has maximized its pressure against Russia by spreading a “rumor about Russia’s possible invasion of Ukraine” since October last year. Russia rejected the U.S. claim as groundless and called upon the U.S. and NATO to give a legal guarantee that they would stop NATO’s eastward expansion and not deploy attack weapons systems in the neighbouring countries of Russia.

When the mutual recriminations were raged between Russia and the U.S., the Heads of State of Russia and the U.S. reached an agreement in December last year to hold a summit to ease tensions over the issue of Ukraine and to discuss the issue of providing a security guarantee.

The statement issued at the very beginning of the New Year by the U.S. politicians against this backdrop proved once again that the U.S. does not change in its ulterior motive to constantly pressure, isolate and weaken Russia with sanctions as a leverage.

Actually, the Russia-U.S. security negotiation held recently closed its curtain without any results as the U.S. categorically rejected the issues set by Russia as the “red line” such as NATO’s eastward expansion and insisted on its unilateral demands only.

To produce a scene of negotiation in front, but to resort to sanctions and pressure backward; this is “diplomacy” peculiar to the U.S., and “sanctions hysterics” are the political endemic disease that cannot be cured at all.

The U.S. would be well-advised to take a serious approach towards addressing the most reasonable concerns of the sovereign states to guarantee their security, instead of bluffing itself by wielding its worn-out “sanctions” stick whenever occasion calls.
