The period between March and July was set as the period of protecting useful animals in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
The country, which puts it forward as its consistent policy to protect and propagate useful animals, is implementing it in an active way as a mass movement in the period.
It is conducting survey and registration on number of species and resources of useful animals distributed in different parts of the country correctly as well as the distribution and resources of other animals inhabiting in reserves, those enlisted to those under protection, those of endemic and rare species of the country and endangered ones, on a regular basis. Based on this, it is taking measures to protect them.
Provinces, cities, counties of the country set useful animal reserves and temporary ones suited to their specific conditions to protect and increase animal resources. And they are scrupulously conducting scientific research to complete objects for emigration acclimatization, artificial breeding and artificial rearing system of useful animals.
They are also directing efforts to conducting on a regular basis the survey and registration of main species under protection including bear, antelope, red deer, yellow-necked marten, goshawk, mandarin dark and endangered and rare species in reserves and reset reserves in keeping with it.
As a result of nationwide survey and registration of animal reserves held in recent years, 26 wild animal reserves have been newly established including Paedogisan and Tuunbong wild animal reserves.
In the period of protecting useful animals, they are conducting work to provide animals with advantageous conditions for their habitation and breeding; creating mixed forests of alder, oak, Korean poplar, wild vine and tara vine trees and arrowroot and planting a lot of herbaceous and fodder plants between small pine communities; setting up signal boards, signposts, notice boards and others; restricting the entrance of people and vehicles.
