The Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea convened a consultative meeting at the office building of the Party Central Committee on Saturday to discuss the matters relating to the readjustment and reinforcement of the present state anti-epidemic capacities and preparations for the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee.

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea, guided the meeting.

Attending the meeting were members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee and members and alternate members of the Political Bureau of the WPK Central Committee.

Present there as observers were officials in the state emergency anti-epidemic sector and a leading official of the Ministry of Public Health.

The Political Bureau heard a report of the state emergency epidemic prevention headquarters on the state of the epidemic spread as of May 20.

First, the consultative meeting discussed the issue of more effectively engineering and executing the anti-epidemic policies of the Party and the state in line with the overall situation in which the spread of the epidemic is being stably contained and controlled.

The Political Bureau appreciated that the stable situation is maintained in the overall areas in which the nationwide spread of the epidemic has been gradually contained and the number of people recovered has increased with the death toll sharply decreasing day by day as an all-people anti-epidemic campaign was launched to display the might and spirit of heroic Korea in the combat against the malignant epidemic according to the decision and instruction of the Party Central Committee on switching over from the state epidemic prevention system to the top emergency anti-epidemic system.

The General Secretary outlined and analyzed the results of the anti-epidemic work in the past nine days after the start of the anti-epidemic war.

Appreciating the current affirmative trend in the state emergency anti-epidemic effort, he said the achievements made in the ongoing campaign are an outcome of our Party's correct guidance, the politico-ideological superiority of our socialist system and its peculiar organizing ability and unity.

He stressed the need to maintain the current favourable turn on the overall anti-epidemic front by continually and rapidly regulating and optimizing the state anti-epidemic policy in keeping with the developments and mapping out the state strategy and tactics accordingly and to take all possible steps for revitalizing the overall economy at the same time.

He said that it is necessary to make all the Party members recollect and arm themselves once again with the overall epidemic prevention measures our Party has maintained for more than two years since the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, the present state anti-epidemic guidelines and regulations and the experience and lessons gained in the course of implementing them so that the Party organizations can recognize again their duty and role and the Party members their mission in overcoming the current health crisis and all the people raise consciousness.

He stressed the important tasks and ways for reliably safeguarding our public health defence line by continuously pushing ahead with the work for containing the spread of the epidemic to the maximum and improving medical treatment of the persons who have fever and are tested positive for the epidemic and by consistently holding fast to the overall anti-epidemic principles and measures taken by our Party.

Saying that it is necessary to grasp the inefficiency of the statewide work through an acute consideration and create an opportunity to achieve signal development of the state capacity for coping with crisis, he stressed that all sectors and units should not take shortsighted and temporary measures, but dynamically push ahead with the readjustment and reinforcement from the strategic viewpoint and study and establish the emergency action program and working system.

He called for certainly winning great victory in the all-people campaign against the malignant virus by directing great efforts to protecting the health of medical workers and providing their living conditions, developing the communist virtues and beautiful traits into a fine style of life in our society and promoting the patriotic, collectivist and socialist spirit among the people.

Repeatedly stressing the duty and role of the Party and responsibility of Party workers in the current public health crisis facing the country, he said that our Party organizations and workers should stand in the places the people are afraid of, anxious about and troubled with and become the bulletproof walls for defending the people with infinite devotion and steady loyalty to them.

He pointed out the important matters related to the role and immediate tasks of the field of jurisdiction, prosecution and public security.

The consultative meeting discussed the issue of setting up district medical treatment centers for planning and commanding medical service to cope with the epidemic and deploying medical forces throughout the country in a balanced way, the issue of establishing medicine supply centers and bases in Pyongyang Municipality, all provinces, districts and counties and improving the efficiency, speed and safety of the supply of medicines, the issue of positively using Koryo medicines with great efficicacy in the treatment, the issue of enhancing the production capacity of pharmaceutical factories and increasing the variety of essential and reserve medicines and the issue of strongly taking fundamental measures for further cementing the material and technical foundations of the public health sector, and took relevant policy-oriented measures.

Next, the meeting discussed the issue of dispatching practical guidance teams to each province to conduct a general survey of the execution of the Party and state policies for the first half of the year 2022 as part of the preparations for the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee.

Saying that the struggle to implement the Party's line for the comprehensive development of socialism should constantly be pushed ahead without interruption together while continuously waging the high-intensity state emergency anti-epidemic campaign, the respected General Secretary said that the practical guidance teams should be organized for surveying, according to each region and sector, the execution of the Party and state policies assigned at the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK with members of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee.

He stressed that leading officials should adopt timely measures after accurately surveying on site the operation of the emergency anti-epidemic system such as the supply of medicines to residents, medical treatment, provision of their living conditions and the implementation of anti-epidemic measures, along with the production in the industrial sectors and actual conditions of the agricultural sector in all farming processes for the implementation of major policy-oriented tasks.

He said that the practical guidance teams should actively guide and help the work to enhance the functions and role of local Party and power organs and working people's organizations which are in a position to play a leading role in implementing the Party's policies in their respective areas, from a developmental point of view in line with the demands of the developing revolution and the changing trend of situation and environment.

Saying that the leading officials, who are dispatched to each province, should solemnly accept the heavy responsibility given by the Party and the people, find innovative measures on the basis of accurate understanding of the actual conditions in the field and report them to the plenary meeting of the Party Central Committee so that they may be reflected in relevant decisions, he indicated the ways for doing so.

The consultative meeting of the Political Bureau decided to organize the practical guidance teams involving members of the Presidium of the Political Bureau and secretaries of the Party Central Committee as the main force and officials from the relevant departments of the Party Central Committee as well as necessary persons from the Cabinet and the judicial and prosecutorial sector, and made detailed arrangements to allocate the areas where the respective teams will have to work and their duties.
