A few days ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of the US released data showing that more than 107 000 people died due to overdose of medicines and of them over 80 000 from medicinal poisoning related to opium strain.
The Centers explained that the figures are a 15% increase over 2020 and 50% increase as against 2019.
The contributing factor to the loss of tens of thousands of lives due to drug every year in the US is directly linked with drug trafficking which is prevalent with each passing day as well as irresponsibility of drug manufacturers and all kinds of social evils.
In reality, 2021 witnessed serious cases of drug trafficking in the border area between the US and Mexico. Because of this, drug-related mortality rate in this area soared eight times more than 2020.
One expert asserted that the fatality by medicinal poisoning is on the rapid increase in the US as drug manufacturers have overused fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine since the outbreak of the pandemic allegedly to enhance medicinal effect of their products.
The rapid spread of COVID-19 produced economic upheaval, leading to abject penury. It is said that it is also directly connected with increased drug addicts.
An average of 20 veterans take drugs for suicide every day in the US, the biggest drug consumer in the world. The rate of drug abuse among young people is also on the increase.
The drug abuse in the US universities is omnipresent. Reportedly, some students are even taking hemp on a regular basis in dormitories.
Despite this reality, the US President, when he released his national drug control strategy in April, said the US administration is trying to resolve the drug problem. He also told such lies without any hesitation that it’s time they treat addiction like any other disease and that they are disrupting drug traffickers’ financial networks, supply chains, and delivery routes.
This is really a nonsensical talk.
Successive US administrations have been boisterous about extermination of drug-related crimes at every available opportunity. But the drug problem is a malignant tumour which can never be cured in the US which is inundated with all social evils.
