Now interest in the compound active blue algae is growing day after day as it is effective in improving the fertility of paddy and dry fields.
The blue algae has the ability to fix nitrogen in the air, so it plays a very great role in improving the fertility of soil.
Scientists at the Agricultural Land Resources Institute under the Academy of Agricultural Science established a new method of cultivating nitrogen-fixing blue algae. On the basis of this, they developed compound active blue algae, a soil improvement agent, which is effective in improving the physicochemical quality and fertility of soil.
The compound active blue algae with low-grade brown coal and brown coal waste, both of which are natural organic minerals, as its carrier is a pulverized complex microbial product made by adding a microelement additive to three species of blue algae of high nitrogen-fixing ability.
The new blue algae photosynthesizes and releases oxygen while breathing, thus it takes great effect in the land affected by sulphate reduction as it increases the oxygen content of soil. Besides, it accumulates much humus in soil and increases absorbing capacity of soil by changing its volume weight, making it highly resistant to unfavourable environment such as drought.
The compound active blue algae promotes crops’ absorption of nutritive substance and provides favourable conditions for their growth so as to ensure high and stable crop yields. This has been proved in many cooperative farms in different provinces such as North Hwanghae and South Phyongan provinces.
