June 25 is the day marking the 47 th anniversary of the independence of Mozambique and the founding of its Republic. It also falls on the 47 th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Mozambique.
It is no coincidence that the diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on the Independence Day of Mozambique.
President Kim Il Sung , out of a noble sense of international obligation, paid deep attention to the Mozambique Liberation Front Party and the Mozambican people in their strenuous struggle against the colonialists since the 1960s. He also extended unreserved support and encouragement to them, both materially and morally.
The delegation of the Mozambique Liberation Front Party headed by Samora Moises Machel visited our country in September 1971 and March 1975. President Kim Il Sung warmly welcomed the delegation and gave valuable teachings to the delegation members to help the Mozambican people achieve a decisive victory in the national liberation struggle. He also saw to it that lots of aid materials were sent to them.
On June 25 1975, when Mozambique achieved independence, President Kim Il Sung immediately took a measure to establish diplomatic relations with the Republic of Mozambique at ambassadorial level.
Samora Moises Machel, the first President of Mozambique, being so charmed by the outstanding political ability, lofty traits and noble international obligation of President Kim Il Sung , expressed his true feelings at the historic celebration meeting of declaring independence. He said that Mozambican people achieved liberation, shattering the chains binding their feet, thanks to the great hero President Kim Il Sung who illuminated their way ahead. He also said that they feel obliged to extend their gratitude to President Kim Il Sung , carrying combined hearts of the ancestors who shed their blood and laid down their lives for today.
The bilateral relations have continued to develop on good terms in various fields of politics, the economy and culture for nearly half a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Mozambique, which exerts its effort to achieve social stability and economic development, and ensure world peace and security, was recently elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for a term of 2023-2024.
The government and people of Mozambique deserve credit as they have held fast to the independent stand and impartiality to defend the right and interests of developing countries.
We send invariable support and solidarity to the struggle of the government and people of Mozambique. We will also make positive efforts to continuously develop the long-standing and traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK and the Republic of Mozambique.
