The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is an artificial earth satellite manufacturer and launcher.
It launched the first artificial earth satellite in Juche 87(1998). In less than 20 years after that, it launched an application satellite and an earth observation satellite and made a rapid development from the inclined orbit satellite to the polar orbit satellite.
These man-made earth satellites are all homemade ranging from designing to manufacture, assembly, launch and observation after launch.
The first application satellite "Kwangmyongsong-3"-2 was successfully launched on December 12, Juche 101(2012) under the leadership of the respected Kim Jong Un.
On its basis, Kim Jong Un ensured that a change was brought about in the fields of space science research and satellite launch of the country.
At the plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea held in March 2013 he set a high goal of developing and launching a greater number of developed satellites including the communication satellite by putting spurs to the development of space science and technology.
And he took measures to build the Satellite Control Centre of the National Aerospace Development Administration and modernize the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground.
Scientists and technicians launched the earth observation satellite "Kwangmyongsong-4" with success on February 7, Juche 105(2016) in less than four years after the launch of the first application satellite.
As a result, the DPRK entered the stage of development of the application satellite.
A great success was made in the static firing test of new-type high-thrust motor for the geostationary satellite carrier rocket in September that year, paving a broader avenue for conquering the outer space.
Kim Jong Un visited the National Aerospace Development Administration and the Sohae Satellite Launching Ground in March this year, too. He indicated specific orientation and ways, saying it is, first of all, important to lay firm material and technical foundations for the space science research in order to hit the high sci-tech target of space conquest set by the state.
It is recognized that only those countries with at least tens of year-long history of satellite development and the experience of having launched satellites more than 100 times can become space powers.
The DPRK ranked among the space powers with the launch of man-made earth satellites on several occasions in less than 20 years and it is now speeding up the space development for peaceful use.
