Nearly 70 years have passed since the sound of gunfire of war died out on the Korean peninsula, but the wound of the catastrophic war forced by the US imperialists has not healed yet.

The US invaders dropped 18 bombs per square kilometre in the DPRK on average. They dropped over 428 000 bombs on some 1 400 occasions in Pyongyang alone.

Different kinds of explosives showered by the US imperialists including butterfly and napalm bombs whose use is forbidden by international convention have remained unexploded to threaten the lives of people.

During the past decade, unexploded bombs and shells dropped by the enemies in the capital city of Pyongyang and all other parts of the country were discovered and disposed continuously.

In 2012, dozens of bombs were unearthed in the construction sites of the Munsu Water Park and Mirim Riding Club, six 250kg bombs and more than 900 shells in the construction site of Mirae Scientists Street in 2014 and 50 unexploded shells were dismantled during the excavation process for foundation of the Pyongyang General Hospital in 2020.

Many explosives have been found out in the period of reclaiming the Sepho tableland, including 250kg bombs, different kinds of mines and incendiary bombs that had been buried in the Sepho and Phyonggang county areas.

In particular, germ bombs whose use is forbidden by international law appeared in Murung-ri of Ichon County.

Dozens of the US-made butterfly bombs and mortar shells were unearthed in Kaesong, a city along the military demarcation line.

A large bomb which the US air pirates dropped to destroy roads, railways and bridges leading to Pyongyang was removed from the section where the ground was excavated for the foundation of Uan Dam of Huichon Power Station Unit 10 in late February 2014.

Some 760 explosives including eight 500kg bombs and ten 250kg bombs were removed in Kumgang and Kosong counties of Kangwon Province in the course of detecting concentratedly bombed areas in the period of the Fatherland Liberation War.

A foreign journalist who visited the DPRK in 2017 wrote about the impressions he got as he collected news materials at the suburbs of Hamhung in an article entitled “DPRK still forced to dispose of explosives 64 years after war”:

“…In October last year 370 bombs were unearthed near the playground of a primary school. The explosive disposal squad in Hamhung City disposed of 2 900 explosives last year alone and about 1 200 this year….”

He said that the US dropped 635 000 tons of bombs on Korea including 32 500 tons of napalm bombs during the war and most of them were dropped on the DPRK, adding that the Korean war was one of the cruellest wars in history.
