Who “Challenges” to Peace and Stability?

Recently, the NATO Summit held in Madrid, Spain, has adopted a new “strategic concept” which touched upon the issue of China for the first time.

According to news reports, NATO has specified in the document that China “challenges interests, security and values of the alliance” and condemned China’s military build-up, economic policy and technological development.

A spokesperson for Chinese foreign ministry fired back at that. It said NATO, a product of the cold war and the world’s biggest military bloc, has long resorted to the old security concept and was reduced to a tool for an individual country to maintain its hegemony long time ago. He further said that NATO indeed constitutes a “systematic challenge” to the global security and stability with its hands being stained with the blood of the world people.

The spokesperson for the Chinese mission to EU emphasized that China would deliver a decisive counterblow to any act of encroaching on its interests, saying that NATO itself is generating complicated problems across the world.

NATO claims that its underlying mission is to defend the European Atlantic region. But it included the issue of China in its new strategic concept. This cannot be seen otherwise than the crafty trick of the U.S. which is increasing pressure on China, labeling it as “the most severe and long-term challenge to the international order” at the present time.

Over the recent years, the U.S. is putting spurs to formation of anti-China encirclement ring by successively organizing “Quad”, “AUKUS”, IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework), etc. Meanwhile, it is getting undisguised in its attempt to isolate China, interfering in issues of Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong etc. that are regarded by China as its core interests.

Under the present circumstances where the U.S. strategy to contain China has entered full-scale stage, it is extremely dangerous that NATO, the world’s biggest military alliance, is spearheading its aggression to the Asia-Pacific under the pretext of coping with “threat of China” and defending “shared values” and the “rules-based international order”.

It is as clear as day that the region would be inevitably put into a spiral of conflict, contradiction, division and collision, if we let the adventurous movement of the U.S. and NATO seeking hegemony in the Asia-Pacific take its course.

The U.S. and NATO, which inflicted ravages of war upon the peoples of various countries, are virtually the biggest challenges and threats to the global peace and stability. Their reckless maneuvers would suffer a crushing defeat by strong opposition and rejection of the Asian countries.
