One day in September Juche 35(1946) General Kim Il Sung called writers and said now the people wanted to sing to their heart’s content the excitement and joy of enjoying freedom and happiness in the liberated country. He then assigned them a task to produce a “Patriotic Song”.
Saying ours is a really beautiful country, he noted that it is surrounded by the sea on three sides, the mountains are vigorous and imposing and all kinds of cereals and fruits ripen in the fields and that it has abundant deposits of underground resources and is rich in gold and silver and other treasures. The Korean people are a resourceful people with a 5 000-year history and brilliant culture, he said, adding they should reflect on the song the national pride and self-esteem of the Korean people who have a beautiful country and resourceful fighting traditions.
The writers created the Patriotic Song by putting his valuable instructions into the song with throbbing heart.
Later, Kim Il Sung saw that the song was flawlessly completed by paying close attention to its production so that it could be an eternal hymn to the motherland which would be sung generation after generation.
The DPRK’s national anthem was thus created under his meticulous guidance from the theme to content and music.
