The Korea April 26 Animation Studio has produced successive parts of cartoon series Ko Jumong and The Clever Racoon Dog, long-time box-office hits, and other animations on the theme of common knowledge.

Ko Jumong, a historical cartoon film dedicated to King Tongmyong, founder of the first feudal state of Korea who had built the framework for powerful Koguryo, has long been popular with all the Korean people, men and women, old and young.

“We’ve produced parts 39 and 40 of Ko Jumong this year. In these parts the story jumps over 10 years and tells about the generation of the main characters and their grown-up children as well. So it was just like making a new piece of work, rather than continuing the old one,” said Kim Kyong Ho, a section chief of the studio.

Ko Jumong’s son, Ryodal, grew in a faraway place without knowing who his father was. So the producers had to offer characteristic features distinct from his father to him.

They racked their brains to develop a variety of plans for artistic portrayal of him and constructed interesting plots to show his individual characters, a combination of his father’s characteristic features and bold and violent temper he had developed in the course of growing in the vast stretches of field.

They also improved the flexibility and vividness in character portrayal and truthfulness in expression in the introduction of 3-D cartoon film programming technology to ensure the quality of the work.

The studio has also produced parts 68 and 69 of another blockbuster cartoon film, The Clever Racoon Dog, which helps children develop intellectual faculties and teaches audiences life lessons.

Part 68 A Hercules tells a story that the hero racoon dog saves his friend rabbit’s house from danger by lifting a large rock, that even strong animals failed to do, easily with the help of the principle of pulley.

“Cartoon series The Clever Racoon Dog is my favourite animation. I’ve acquired considerable knowledge from it. Seeing part 69 On the Sea, I’ve learned the principle of motion that two or more fast moving objects, though small, produce big power when they crash into one another and how we can apply it in life usefully,” said Kim Yon Hwa, a fourth-year pupil at Ryonhwa Primary School in Central District, Pyongyang.

In a general knowledge-theme cartoon film, Final Match, hero Nam I participates in a common knowledge competition, but loses it as he misunderstood watermelon, a vegetable, as a fruit and brings it. The story gives TV viewers general knowledge about vegetables and fruits.
