Kim Il Sung University concentrates efforts on the training of space scientists and technicians.

“Under the state concern, a system of training talents in the field of space science and technology has been established at different universities and colleges in the country. Several faculties of our university have also departments related to it,” said a university official.

According to him, the university selected subjects concerning space science and technology by referring to various documents including curriculums of world-famous space-related universities and handbook of aerospace, and advanced technologies.

In the course of it, many subjects were pioneered, including “The elements of aerospace” which several departments jointly offer.

“The department of aeroelectronics of our faculty teaches scientific and technical problems arising in the design and development of aerospace electronic devices and control of space instruments and flying objects,” said Pak Un Sun, section chief of the electronics and automation faculty.

The faculty has over a dozen subjects related to them, including satellite orbital dynamics, simulation of space flying objects and aircraft control.

Especially, it puts efforts into teaching students knowledge of satellite attitude control and power supply.

To this end, it conceived, designed and completed an experimental device for ground attitude control of artificial earth satellite by itself.

“The device creates the same conditions on the ground as in space. Students can actually see the attitude control in the outer space on the ground with it,” said Yun Jong Nam, director of the automatics institute.

It also developed various experimental apparatuses helpful in improving practical ability of students, like virtual simulation environment using STK and MATLAB, triaxial flight control testing facility and clino-axis driving drone.

Most students in this field graduated from Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 and similar schools across the country.

They work hard to fulfil their dream of conquering the outer space.

“I had been interested in the flying objects from childhood and entered this department as I desired. While studying here, I came to have a better understanding of the applications satellites launched by our country. After graduation, I will make a contribution to developing the country’s space science and technology,” said So Paek Chon, a fifth-year student of the aeroelectronics department of the electronics and automation faculty.

“We know we are learning very difficult subjects, but the more we delve into the world of mysterious space, the more they attract us and we feel interested in them. If we discover more planets and launched more satellites, humans will get to know more about resources in space and develop them. I want to become a teacher and teach the younger generation who will contribute to space exploration for peaceful purposes,” said his classmate Ri Kuk Hwa.

The university vigorously conducts scientific research together with the training of talents in the field of space science and technology. It also takes an active part in space science and technology symposiums to contribute to promoting space exploration of the country.

Section chief Pak Un Sun presented an essay “Attitude determination of satellite by the sun” and took the first place, and student Kang Hong Nam was highly appreciated at space science and technology symposium 2021 held last year.
