Starting his revolutionary struggle, President Kim Il Sung regarded study as one of the most important revolutionary tasks and as the first duty of revolutionaries.
During the anti-Japanese armed struggle, he organized intensive military and political studies at secret camps to prepare the officers and men of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) for full readiness in politico-ideological and military aspects.
Those studies, conducted on his initiative, were a powerful ideological offensive aimed to train the first generation of the Korean revolution into staunch fighters with the unshakable revolutionary faith and greet the great event of national liberation with full preparations by giving full play to their mental strength for the shining victory in the great anti-Japanese war.
Such intensive studies had been made at secret camps in dense forests for one or a few months from the latter half of the 1930s when the KPRA advanced into the area of Mt Paektu to stage a positive offensive against the enemy.
Two rounds of the political and military study were recorded in Juche 26 (1937) when the historic Battle of Pochonbo took place. Under an operational plan of the President, there were a military and political training of one month at the Donggang secret camp in April 1937 and a military and political study of at least four months at the Matanggou secret camp from late November 1937 to late March 1938. The studies were of great significance in the history of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.
Two terms of intensive military and political study were organized at the secret camp in Baishitan in January 1940 according to a step taken by the President. The studies served as vitamins enabling the KPRA to deal a heavy political and military blow at the enemy and encourage the people at home to take an active part in the struggle of liberating the country.
Before the final showdown for liberating Korea, military and political studies and training had been conducted in real earnest under a regular teaching program of military academy at a training base in the far eastern region of Russia.
The revolutionary study habit established in the anti-Japanese struggle serves as an example our people should always follow.
