The great leader Kim Jong Il started his leadership over the revolutionary armed forces by visiting the Seoul Ryu Kyong Su Guards 105th Tank Division of the Korean People's Army on August 25, Juche 49(1960).
Looking round different places of the unit that day, he said the People's Army should perform its mission with credit under the slogan "Let us defend with our very lives the Party Central Committee headed by the respected Comrade Kim Il Sung!". And he concretely indicated the basic ways to increase the combat efficiency of the People's Army in every way.
He led the army for more than half a century.
In those days, a unified command system of the Party was thoroughly established in the People's Army, turning it into an army strong in ideology and faith which follows only its leader and Party in any conditions.
And a revolutionary training atmosphere was established in the whole army under the slogan "Training is also a battle!", arming all the service personnel with the Juche-oriented tactics that suits the characteristics of the modern warfare and the specific conditions of the country.
The People's Army is the main force of the revolution making a breakthrough in the socialist construction as well as the national defence.
A heyday of increasing the military strength was ushered in thanks to the leadership of Kim Jong Il over the revolutionary armed forces which started on August 25.
On the historic day, Kim Jong Il said it is the mission of the revolutionary army to guarantee the cause of the leader, the independent cause of the popular masses with arms. His instruction serves as a guideline to be held fast to by the People's Army forever.
