President Kim Il Sung visited farm fields on Chongsan Plain on October 6 in a bumper year. Feasting his eyes on the swaying sea of rice with satisfaction, he asked a management official of the farm how many tons of rice would be produced per hectare and when they would complete rice harvest.
The official, who had been absorbed in one idea to give pleasure to the President by harvesting rice as soon as possible, replied that they would finish it by October 10.
That night, when the official was at a loss unable to find out a way for completing rice harvest in a few days while sitting alone, several cars suddenly came into the entrance of the village in succession flashing their headlights.
He did not know the reason why the cars had arrived there. After jumping down from a car, an official in the art sector informed him of the reason why they came.
Saying that the chairman of the management board of the Chongsan Cooperative Farm told the President today that they would wind up rice harvest by October 10, leader Kim Jong Il worried that it would be difficult for only farmers and helpers to complete rice harvest and referred to the need to advance the sports games of the art and press sectors slated for the day after tomorrow to tomorrow and include rice harvesting on the farm as one of the first matches. He also set the regulations of the games and appointed judge members, saying that all players who would compete this time and rooters should take part in the rice harvesting campaign on the farm, the competitors should not drop even an ear of rice and such a team should be disqualified from the next competition.
Therefore, a rice harvesting competition unprecedented in the history of sports games was held uproariously on Chongsan Plain and the farm could successfully round off laborious rice harvest to make a report of this to the President.
