U.S. “War Against Terrorism” Aims at Maintaining World Hegemony

Date: 20/09/2022 | Source: Ministry of Foreign Affairs (EN) | Read original version at source

It is now 21 years since the outbreak of the 9.11 incident.

In this connection, the Chinese Xinhua News Agency recently carried an article titled “U.S. ignites wars under the name of ‘counter-terrorism’ to bring about global disaster”.

The article said that the “war against terrorism” by the U.S. has not rooted out terrorism but it rather costs the world dear by producing bitter consequences, i.e. heavy civilian casualties, great humanitarian disasters, ongoing social instability and environmental destruction.

And it noted as follows:

The war and military actions the U.S. committed under the name of “counter-terrorism” in the past 21 years spread from Afghanistan to Iraq, Pakistan, Syria, Yemen and beyond.

Since the 9.11 incident, at least 930,000 people lost their lives due to the U.S.-provoked wars and several times more died from malnutrition, destruction of infrastructure, and ever-worsening life environment. And 38 million people from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Syria and other countries fled their native homes in search of places to live.

In order to achieve its geopolitical purpose, the U.S. conducted selective “counter-terrorist” activities. As a result, the number of terrorist groups in Afghanistan increased from single figures of 20 years before to as many as 20-odd at present, inflicting great harm on the Afghan people as well as on the neighbouring countries.

The U.S. always defined the terrorist groups on the basis of its own interests.

And the “war against terrorism” waged by the U.S. in Afghanistan was only an excuse for the expansion of its supremacy.

Though the U.S. held out the signboards of “counter-terrorism” and “democracy”, the current situation where terrorism and confusion are rampant in the region shows that the U.S. used the “war against terrorism” for safeguarding its supremacy in the world.

A small minority of groups in the U.S. are hitting the jackpot while the world is suffering pains due to the U.S.-style “counter-terrorism”.

Since the “war against terrorism” broke out in 2001, the military expenditure of the U.S. has reached the astronomical amount and half of it filled the pockets of the U.S. munitions enterprises such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, General Dynamics and Boeing.

Instigated by the large munitions industry, the U.S. military expenditure will continue to increase and this indicates that the number of wars will only increase as long as the U.S. gains interests from the war.

The “counter-terrorist” method which regards the war as its basis and gives priority to military will bear no fruit in any case.

This is a clear judgement about the catastrophic consequences of the U.S. “war against terrorism”.

The reality clearly proves that “counter-terrorism” and “democracy” clamoured by the U.S. are no other than hypocrisy to cover its own wild dream of world supremacy and another form of the aggressive war which inflicts misfortunes and sufferings upon humanity.
