Amid the Three-Revolution Red Flag Movement actively going on as an all-people drive, the mathematics faculty of Kim Il Sung University has recently become a Trice Honoured Three-Revolution Red Flag unit.

Several years ago, the officials, lecturers and researchers of the faculty made a decision to turn out in the movement of winning the title.

“We set it as our goal in the technical side of this movement to make all lecturers and researchers academic degree and title holders, introduce new subjects and new teaching methods, improve educational conditions and environment and achieve practical scientific research successes,” said Hong Hyon Phyo, senior official of the faculty.

Believing that students’ scholastic attainments wholly depend on qualifications of lecturers, they regarded the improvement of qualifications of lecturers and researchers as the focal point in the development of the faculty.

The dean, vice-deans and other officials of the faculty took the lead in improving qualifications.

In the course of this, dean Kim Jin Myong was awarded the title of Professor and PhD and contributed eight study papers to international academic journals.

“Kim solved a key problem in the field of harmonic analysis which had remained unsolved in the world mathematic circles for over forty years and came up with a theorem conducive to the development of partial differential equation theory. The mathematic circles appraised that his solution was a surprisingly great analysis and completely perfect result,” said Kim Mun Chol, vice-dean in charge of academic affairs.

His feat encouraged lecturers and researchers of the faculty to improve their abilities and to launch a competition in scientific research.

In those years, over 90 lecturers won the title of October 8 Model Teacher and all the lecturers and researchers became academic degree and title holders.

Their enhanced abilities resulted in great scholastic attainments of their students.

In the past five years, the faculty has produced four University Student Scientific Search Prize-winning classes with over 110 winners of University Student Scientific Search Prize and more than eighty inventors and many students contributed to winning over twenty times at international Internet programming contests.

They also introduced over 30 new subjects, authored over 40 first-rate textbooks and invented and introduced over 50 new teaching methods.

“The movement for winning Trice Honoured Three-Revolution Red Flag is not only confined to theoretical research,” said Kim Mun Chol.

Lecturers and researchers of the faculty contributed to scientific operation of furnaces and improvement of pig iron’s quality by introducing a slag level measuring system into oxygen blast furnaces at the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex, which was appreciated by General Secretary Kim Jong Un. And they contributed to the development of the national economy and the improvement of the people’s living standards by carrying out over 80 scientific research tasks.

The faculty grew into a competent group in the university as they conducted the movement.

They said with pride that all these successes were the result of the Three-Revolution Red Flag Movement.
