China Censures Japan’s New Security Strategy

Recently, Japan newly revised the three major documents on its security strategy and defined China as “the greatest strategic challenge”. In regard to this, Chinese news media released articles exposing Japan’s real intention.

China Daily issued a commentary to the effect that Japan’s description of China as “the greatest strategic challenge” is a mere excuse to reinforce its military forces, and that if there does exist a potential threat to East Asian peace, it is none other than the resurgence of militarist mode of thinking among Japanese politicians.

The Global Times carried as follows, quoting the views of specialists:

Japan’s newly revised documents regarding security strategy specified the development of “counterattack capability” that can destroy missile bases in other countries under the pretext of “self-defence”. This goes beyond the boundaries of “total defence” stipulated in its “peace constitution” and shows that its military is taking on a more offensive character no longer restrained by the “peace constitution”.

The documents directly targeted the maritime and territorial disputes in East Asia and the situation in the Taiwan Straits, it added. It also warned that targeting a specific country will only aggravate contradictions and conflicts and will lead to regional division, and that if Japan continues to seek artificial confrontation between camps, it will compound its own security crisis.

The spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry also underlined as follows:

We firmly reject Japan’s moves to groundlessly tarnish China’s defence build-up and regular military operations, contrary to the promises made regarding bilateral relations as well as to China-Japan joint recognition. Especially, with regard to Taiwan issue, Japan should mind its p’s and q’s and live up to its promise. That Japan is creating artificial tension in the South China Sea with certain countries constitutes the greatest challenge to regional peace and stability. Its attempt to use “threat from China” as an excuse to increase military expenditure can never be realized.

Japan, which has continuously distorted and embellished its bloody history of aggression, is rushing headlong into becoming a military power whilst branding China as “the greatest strategic challenge” to its security. Its rash acts are dangerous and detrimental to regional peace and stability and will inevitably be faced with stronger denunciation and rejection from the international community.
