The following happened one early morning in early October one year when Chairman Kim Jong Il set out on his inspection tour of frontline posts by car.
When his car was passing through a road to a county township, a boy about nine years old was walking along the road with a schoolbag on his back. He turned round as he heard a car coming towards him, and politely made a salute of the Children’s Union to it.
As Kim Jong Il looked at the boy out of his car window, he told his driver to halt and beckoned to the boy. Having approached him, the boy became wide-eyed, as he saw Kim Jong Il whom he had missed awake or sleep.
“Fatherly General!” he shouted.
Looking at the boy with affection, Kim Jong Il asked him where he was going. As the boy answered that he was going to school, Kim Jong Il told him to get on his car, saying that he would take him to the school. But the boy took a step backward as he, young as he was, thought he would not keep Kim Jong Il away from his busy affairs even for a moment. Caring for the admirable boy, Kim Jong Il held his hands and put him on the car.
After a while, the car arrived near the school.
The boy got out of the car and made a bow to Kim Jong Il . Looking at the lovely boy, Kim Jong Il asked him to study hard and continued his field inspection trip.
