I still remember what a boilerman of the Pyongyang Thermal Power Station said to me during my news coverage.
He said: I am getting old together with this boiler. Now I feel I could not live apart from it. I’ve become attached to it.
He works at a place rarely known to others but for the workers of the power station, that is, an “invisible workplace” that nobody carefully observes even if he sweats at his job.
But he has loved and valued the boiler very much, always finding pride in his job.
Today, there are many similar persons in the country who devote themselves at such workplaces.
Among them are educators who put their heart and soul into education of the rising generation after volunteering to work at schools in remote mountain villages and on far-flung islands, forest rangers who tend green forests in deep mountains, railway watchers who walk along the railways all their lives to ensure railway safety, etc.
No one asks them to choose such a job and no one finds fault with them as they do not do it.
A plumber of the Rangnang Sewage Treatment Plant in Pyongyang is frequently asked how he has worked for tens of years at the workplace where others hesitated to do.
He always replies as follows: I am pleased to think that I provide citizens with clean and civilized living environment, even if I work at a workplace that is not noticed by others. I feel happiest when I see people living in good environment.
What is kept in their mind is patriotism. As they work with the pure patriotic mind that they have nothing more to desire if they do something conducive to the prosperity of the country, wherever and whatever they do, they find the worth of life and pride in their jobs.
The motherland gives them prominence, calling them patriots.
