People call mine a house of meju (balls of soybean malt).
Whenever I hear the nickname for my house, I remember a touching story.
In January Juche 98 (2009), during his visit to the Wonsan Youth Power Station, Chairman Kim Jong Il called at my new house. We were a newly-married couple and were working at the power station after being discharged from military service.
Looking at the balls of soybean malt hanging on a wall in the front room of my house, he said that it was a scene which could be seen only in the countryside. Noting that I could make soy sauce with soybean malt by adding salt, he said that if I made delicious soy sauce, he would drop in at my house to take some bottles for himself, and asked me to prepare tasty soy sauce with the malt.
From that day, my family members have long cherished a boundless yearning for the Chairman, waiting for his another visit to my house.
Every year whenever they prepare soy sauce and paste with balls of soybean malt, all my family members and villagers of the power station talk about his loving care.
The story of his loving care for the family of an ordinary discharged soldier couple will be handed down forever along with the nickname of meju house.
