The large-scale house-building programme introduced by the Workers’ Party of Korea and the state is not designed for the pursuit of financial profit; it is an ennobling undertaking to turn the state’s assets and the fruits of their creative labour into benefits of the working masses.

It is a passage of speech delivered by the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un at the ground-breaking ceremony for a project to build 10 000 flats in the Songsin and Songhwa districts in the capital city of Pyongyang held in late March 2021.

Through this, we can understand the hope of the Korean people for the future and their beautiful dreams and ideals.

Thanks to the devotion and painstaking efforts of Kim Jong Un to provide his people with fresh civilization one after another, a grand distinctive architectural group of 10 000 flats, including an 80-storeyed skyscraper, was completed in the Songsin and Songhwa districts in a matter of a year. And a terraced houses district for 800 families was built on the picturesque banks of the Pothong River. A greenhouse farm, the largest of its kind in the world, was built in the Ryonpho area in the eastern part of the country. It has a capacity of producing tens of thousands of tons of vegetables and its production area covers 100 hectares.

In April this year, a new modern street was built in the Hwasong area. It consists of various multi-storey and high-rise apartment houses, public buildings, service amenities and other public welfare amenities.

According to the rural revolution programme in the new era, a large number of dwelling houses with regional characteristics have been built in rural areas and remote mountainous villages across the country. As a result, agricultural workers moved into new houses, a happy event which could be found nowhere in the world.

This reality is not because conditions are favourable and everything is abundant in the country. No other country in the world but the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea conducts creation and construction under difficult circumstances. Due to the desperate moves of the hostile forces to stifle it and the worldwide health crisis, the country is being faced with manifold obstacles and hardships in the way of its advance.

But the Workers’ Party of Korea and the government work out plans for gigantic creation and change with a firm will that there should be only advance and creation on the road for the wellbeing of the people, and make vigorous efforts to this end.

Through the event in February this year, the Korean people were deeply convinced of their rosier future.

In the month, ground-breaking ceremonies took place for the second-stage construction of 10 000 flats in the Hwasong area, the construction of a new street in the Sopho area and a large-scale greenhouse farm in the Kangdong area in Pyongyang.

Kim Jong Un attended the ceremonies to personally press the blast buttons, and shoveled the first spadeful of earth in commemoration of the ground-breaking for the construction of the Kangdong Greenhouse Farm.

It is his unshakable creed that the housing construction, most welcomed and awaited by the people, should be carried out without fail, however harsh difficulties the country may face.

Thanks to his noble love for the people, the DPRK is bringing earlier the rosier future when the people’s happy laughter will resound through the country.
