We conducted various activities to observe Child Health Day on May 19.

Observing the day is fairly significant in making people have a correct understanding of health care for children, creating a relevant social atmosphere and giving mothers common knowledge about health care for children.

That day primary healthcare facilities (ri people’s hospitals, polyclinics and clinics) and nurseries across the country administered capsules of vitamin A to children and supplied multi-nutrient tablets to them, conducted hygienic information activities for mothers and gave hand washing education for children in accordance with the procedure and standard regulations for observing the day.

Our country which puts forward children as its “king” pays close attention to nutrition management and healthcare of them.

Particularly, since the Third Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea held in June 2021 stressed that there is no more important revolutionary work than the work of bringing up children, the future of the country, to be strong and sound and that it is the most important policy and supreme cherished desire of the Party and state to provide more improved conditions for bringing them up even by investing a huge sum of money, the nutrition management and health care for children has become an important one empowered on a top-priority basis in state affairs.

This can be proved by the fact that the Sixth Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly of the DPRK adopted the DPRK law on childcare in February last year when it was less than a year since the plenary meeting was held.

Additionally, now that the world public health crisis continues and many diseases threatening the lives of people occur, nurseries and kindergartens and the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and similar hospitals built in provinces, the Okryu Children’s Hospital in the city and other medical institutions direct special efforts to nutrition management of children and prevention of diseases under the care of the state and relevant regional public health departments.

As Child Health Day was marked in this environment, the Ministry of Public Health and relevant regional public health departments made sure that the household doctors of all primary healthcare facilities across the country surveyed areas and nurseries in their charge to make all children who are 6 to 59 months old take part in the relevant work while learning about forces of medical workers and ensuring a timely supply of medicines.

It is difficult to expect all work to be conducted simultaneously throughout the country apart from the full responsibility, positive concern and sincere efforts of the Party and government.

Therefore, the responsibility, concern and efforts of a state are very important in the management, protection and improvement of children’s health.

With the pride of being citizens, women and medical workers living in the country where it is an important revolutionary undertaking to bring up children, the future of the country, to be strong and sound and it is the most important policy and supreme cherished desire of the Party and state to provide more improved conditions for bringing them up even by investing a huge sum of money, we will positively contribute to turning it into a country where children and nursing mothers are free from diseases.
