A friendly get-together took place at the Taesongsan Recreation Ground on June 1 on the occasion of the 73rd anniversary of June 1 International Children’s Day.
It was attended by Kim Su Gil, chief secretary of the Pyongyang Municipal Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Vice-Premier Ri Song Hak, Kim Sung Du, chairman of the Education Commission, Choe Hui Thae, chairman of the Pyongyang Municipal People’s Committee, relevant officials, and kindergartners, teachers and women in the city.
Also present there were resident diplomatic envoys in the DPRK, staff members of missions, foreign women and other guests.
Kim Jong Sun, chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Women’s Union of Korea, addressed the meeting.
She warmly congratulated children and foreign guests who attended the get-together on the occasion of June 1 International Children’s Day.
She hoped that all the children would grow happily with nothing to envy by studying well from childhood, respecting parents, seniors and teachers and training their bodies strong, noting that their beautiful dreams and hopes will come true under the care of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.
As children’s songs resounded loudly through the fresh air of beautiful Mt Taesong, they held dances and played folk games to the tune of songs. janggu (hourglass drum) stunts and doll dance staged by talented children won the admiration of participants.
And there were children’s sports and amusement games.
Korean children growing up valiantly cheerfully played such games as house construction, throwing the ball in the basket and jumping over flower-decorated rope.
Residing foreign children and women also attended the games, deepening the feeling of friendship.
The get-together was enlivened by the ball snatching where children tactfully snatched the ball while racking their brains like grown-ups, carrying a ball on the head, holding the wrist of a child, and tug-of-war in which children are required to pool each other’s mind.
Meanwhile, similar events were held in provinces to mark the day.
