The Korean Central News Agency made public a detailed report on the 7th under the title "Proud results in which tangible changes were brought about in the socialist rural promotion 'Goals for irrigation construction this year including field irrigation project put forward by the Seventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee achieved in the main'".

The report said:

Now that a resolute struggle towards a new era of socialist rural development of the Korean style is gaining further momentum under the wise leadership of the great Party Central Committee, tangible changes take place in the accomplishment of the historic cause of rural revolution.

The projects for paddy and dry field irrigation system of more than 200,000 hectares, the dredging of rivers, the desalination of the Lake Kangryong and the perpetuation of sea dikes planned this year according to the decision of the Seventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea have been completed in the main and thus a progress was made in the realization of the irrigation of agriculture.

Especially, the system for irrigation of more than 60,000 hectares of fields including the regions that had been severely inflicted by drought have been renovated, laying a firm guarantee for stable yield despite the natural changes.

The Party Central Committee set the undertaking for completing the irrigation system of the country as a more crucial issue concerning the destiny of the Party policy on powerfully promoting the rural development than the work for strengthening the material and technical foundations of countryside and unfolded a grand construction operation for restoring and readjusting the existing irrigation facilities on a full scale and further expanding the areas under irrigation. The people and service personnel of the People's Army supporting the plan and decision of the Party Central Committee with brilliant practice have built wonderful irrigation networks in all fields, braving through trials and difficulties.

More than 24,000 kilometres of irrigation canals have been repaired, underground water facilities at over 12,000 places built and their capacities expanded, irrigation facilities at over 15,000 places built and repaired, pipes of over 2,400 kilometres laid for irrigation of fields and pumping stations newly built at more than 3,000 places. Such proud reality clearly proving the leaping development of the socialist rural community is a miraculous success to be specially written in the history of our Party for rural construction which was brought by the energetic leadership of the great Party Central Committee that mapped out a bold and daring blueprint for the completion of irrigation system and roused the people of the county for its victory as well as the fighting spirit of resolute implementation of the Korean people and service personnel of the People's Army and the might of army-people unity.

The irrigation systems adding vitality to the land vibrant with the implementation of the program of rural revolution of a new era gives infinite confidence and courage to the agricultural workers and people of the whole country that they can tide over any unfavourable climatic change and hit the goal of grain production put forward by the Party.

Remarkable changes made in the great drive for creation promoting the gigantic cause for socialist rural construction clearly proves the validity and vitality of the Party's policy on agriculture which put forward the perfection of irrigation system as a very important state affairs for rural development. It also gives firmer conviction that only greater victory and miracle are in store on the road ahead of the Korean people advancing under the guidance of the great Party Central Committee, the detailed report stressed.
