The Democratic People's Republic of Korea regards it as the main task of the immediate rural development strategy to completely solve the food problem.

To this end, it presented the readjustment, reinforcement and completion of the irrigation system of the country as a top-priority task to be carried out by 2025 and doesn't spare the state investment.

Under the wise leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea, the establishment of irrigation system in over 200,000 hectares of paddy and dry fields, the dredging of medium and small rivers, the Lake Kangryong desalinization project and the sea dyke perpetuation project planned this year were concluded in the main within the first half of the year.

The irrigation system in over 60,000 hectares of fields was renovated, more than 24,000 kilometres of irrigation canals repaired, upwards of 12,000 underground water facilities built and their capacity expanded, over 1,500 irrigation facilities built and repaired, more than 2,400-kilometre-long pipe project for dry field irrigation concluded and over 3,000 pumping stations built.

It is a brilliant fruition of the energetic leadership of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

In December Juche 111(2022), Kim Jong Un said the irrigation project should be planned scrupulously and carried out like the construction of 10,000 flats in Pyongyang City every year.

He instructed on starting the irrigation project in the regions severely hit by drought and flood in the past and took measures to solve the problems of huge fund and manpower for the project.

He also stressed the need to make a design perfect even after 50, nay, 100 years as solving the water problem in farming is the work for realizing the centuries-odd desire of the farmers.

The Seventh Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Party Central Committee held in February Juche 112(2023) clearly confirmed the stepwise goals for completing the irrigation system of the country within a few years.

At the plenary meeting, Kim Jong Un expounded the important tasks to be carried out in hastening the irrigation construction, improvement of medium and small rivers and perpetuation of sea dykes, the duration of each project, the measures for supplying manpower, equipment and materials and the principled issues to be maintained in the project.

As a result, the irrigation project started in the fields across the country all at once and proceeded with lightning speed.

In those days, Kim Jong Un frequently learned about the problems arising in the project and took necessary measures.

Indeed, his wise leadership was a powerful motive force that brought about miracles in the irrigation construction of the country.
