Researchers of the Tongmyong Bio-Technology Development Company have bred a black fruit calcium plum, a new variety of forest plant with great economic value, and gathered its first fruits.
The tree has calcium content of more than 150mg/100g, which is the highest of the fruits. Its fruits are said to be in great demand for their good taste and nutritive value.
Fruits can be gathered two years after the tree was planted.
They contain a lot of natural pigment and can be used to make various health foods such as fruit juice, fruit milk and canned goods.
The tree grows well even on the land with low fertility. It has strong resistance to drought and high ability to preserve moisture of toil. It also has great utility value in the garden field.
