Recently, European media is voicing growing concerns for NATO’s dangerous steps towards a new cold war.
The Italian RaiNews carried that the world has definitely shifted to a neo-cold war structure after the 75 th founding anniversary of NATO.
It continued as follows:
NATO – initially founded in the wake of WWII as an alliance between 12 countries including the U.S., the UK, and France in order to contain the former USSR – did not cease to exist after the end of the Cold War but continued to pursue its eastward expansion policy by embracing Poland and the Baltic States.
The 1999 air raid on former Yugoslavia and the 9/11 incident in 2001 became a new dynamic of NATO’s expansion which had lost its reason to exist after the end of the Cold War.
They also served as a pretext for its military interference in other country’s internal affairs.
Moreover, the Ukrainian crisis that started in 2022 was a golden opportunity that further highlighted its raison d'être.
Not least, the recent Washington Summit held on the ocassion of NATO’s 75 th founding anniversary clearly revealed its true colours as a dangerous mechanism that can invite a new cold war.
European media, including the British news agency Reuters and German press agency DPA commented: the Washington Summit made a blitz announcement of the plan for deploying the U.S. long-range missiles in Germany for the first time since the end of the Cold War.
NATO and its allies in the Asia-Pacific region expressed their intention to strengthen close cooperation between each other.
This will escalate the tension between the West, Russia and China, accelerating a new arms race. And for this reason, the world is more obviously shifting to a neo-cold war structure.
Quoting especially the warning by the Hungarian Prime Minister regarding the summit that if NATO chooses conflict instead of cooperation and war instead of peace, it will lead to a suicidal act, the media expressed concern that the Washington Summit served as an occasion of perfectly revitalizing NATO at a cold war level and a prelude to a neo-cold war has been opened in Europe.
The above facts clearly illustrate that although NATO is embellishing itself as a defense group for preserving peace, it can never cover up it true nature as an aggressive war machine and is indeed the main culprit destroying world security environment and bringing about a neo-cold war.
