The DPRK acrobats won an Idol gold prize at the International Acrobatics Festival "Idol-2024" held in Russia in July.
Their physical piece "Fly Higher" captured the imagination of the jury and audience as it was coupled with amazing stunts preceded by a four-time somersault, multi-colour illumination and characteristic music.
Experts said that the Korean acrobats successfully performed thrilling stunts including four-time somersault in four rounds of their performances during the festival.
The acrobats from the National Acrobatic Troupe began to prepare for the piece months before the festival.
At first the creators and performers were worried a lot to hear that their physical acrobatics had been decided to be presented to the festival. It was because they had to perform in the air, not on the ground, and most of the performers were novices.
“As you know, our work won the highest prize in the same festival in 2016 and 2018. If we are content with the previous successes, we cannot live up to the developing trends of the world acrobatics. We should demonstrate the renewed development of the Korean physical acrobatics in the coming festival, too, through steady innovation and inquiry,” said Choe Song Il, deputy manager of the troupe in charge of the work.
This inspired the performers to make redoubled efforts from the start. Normally it takes a year of training to attain perfect pairing, but the performers trained hard with a rational approach.
Such painstaking efforts enabled them to perform the movements in good combination with each other in a short span of time without a safety rope.
In line with this development the creators mapped out a plan to demonstrate the mettle of the Korean people who are making world-startling miracles, by presenting thrilling movements including the four-time somersault, a stunt they have the edge on aerial performance.
Like this the performers teamed up with one another to wow many at the festival.
