Phytosin, a physiological activator developed by the Pyongyang advanced biotechnology development company of Kim Chaek University of Technology, is winning popularity in the field of agriculture.

“Phytosin plays an important role in increasing agricultural outputs. We are enjoying benefit by introducing it into all farms in the province,” said Kang Kyong Chol, deputy rector of Chongjin College of Agriculture who is working with the North Hamgyong provincial group for promoting scientific farming.

According to him, the group has been informed of Phytosin since last summer. In the course of finding a way to ensure safe grain production under the unfavourable weather in the area of the Tuman River, the research achievement of Phytosin drew their great interest.

They visited Phytosin developers to learn about it. In the course of studying the composition of new bioactive substance and global analytical data with scientific insight, they confirmed that Phytosin is badly needed for the farming in the province. And they introduced it into all farms in the province.

“Rice plants to which Phytosin was applied as an additional fertilizer to leaves got nearly 20cm longer and healthier than ordinary ones and had longer and larger numbers of roots and rootlets, while producing dozens of more rice grains,” said the manageress of the Ingye Farm in the city of Hoeryong.

The farm introduced nothing, expect Phytosin, but the growth conditions of crops and harvest yield are so gratifying that all farmers are surprised, she said.

A bioactive substance, Phytosin has great effects on the prevention of blight and insects.

Every farmer pays special attention to preventing harms from blight and insects all the year round from the sowing period to the harvest time.

“Phytosin has a really marvellous effect. Brusone, which had swept all over paddy fields every year, disappeared after the application of Phytosin. Now we are free from brusone,” said Kim Kun Jun, director of the Hahoe agricultural and livestock products production branch of the Suchaebong Fishery Station in the city of Rason.

According to the manager of the Manbok Vegetable Greenhouse in Sonbong District, Rason, in the past some tomatoes fell down due to diseases or weak stalk, but after the application of Phytosin, such damage disappeared and the number of leaves increased by 1.4 times and stalk got 0.5cm thicker and the harvest yield rose by 17.4 percent.

Tomatoes, which were cultivated in the greenhouse, are nice in shape and taste. So, local people call them “Phytosin tomato”.

Phytosin, which made it possible to harvest early-ripening crops in different regions in the wake of last year's farming, is now being introduced to wider areas.
