The flag of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) has the emblem of the Party.
The Party flag, in which a hammer, a sickle and a writing brush are inscribed, is associated with the immortal exploits of President Kim Il Sung who developed the WPK into the powerful one which takes deep root among the working masses.
One July day of Juche 35 (1946), the President summoned some officials and proposed instituting a flag of the Party which would reflect its character as a mass party in order to vividly show the character of the party to our people and the world people.
The President attached the great significance to instituting the emblem of the Party and personally guided the designing of emblem of the Party one by one.
Some alien elements, who sneaked into the Party then, viciously schemed to doggedly stop adoption of our Party flag, using sophistry that even other advanced state has no party flag.
The President stressed: The adoption of our Party flag is not something which we should obtain other’s consent. In the past when we began the revolution we did not ask for other’s approval to our deed, and now that our Party is founded, why shouldn’t we do as we decide.
Afterwards the President saw some drafts of emblem of the Party to point out their shortcomings and gave detailed instructions on its correction orientations and ways.
Thanks to the wise leadership and noble intention, energetic and careful guidance of the President, the Party flag and emblem which reflect the character of our Party and its noble mission saw the light.
Now, our Party flag, symbol of greatness of the WPK, conveys the immortal Party building exploits of the peerlessly great persons and strongly encourages our people’s general advance toward the overall development of socialism.
