The spirit of self-reliance, which made Yongil bomb in the period of the anti-Japanese armed struggle and the first submachine gun after the liberation of Korea, gave birth to the heroic Kunja-ri revolutionary spirit during the Fatherland Liberation War.
One of the important guarantees of victory in the fierce battle was to promptly supply weapons and ammunition to the front in time.
Therefore, In the first period of war, President Kim Il Sung took measures to move the only munitions factory in our country from Phyongchon-ri (then) in Pyongyang to a tunnel in Kunja-ri, Songchon County for protecting it from the enemy’s bombing and sending more weapons and ammunition to the front.
The workers of the factory, who had rushed to the Kunja-ri tunnel at a breath true to the intention of the President, made full preparations and buckled down to the production of weapons.
Receiving an order of the President to produce 700 stands of submachine guns in a week during the strategic temporary retreat, they organized a death-defying corps for the weaponry production.
Whenever electricity was cut off due to the enemy’s bombing, they processed accessories by turning the belt of lathes with hands and assembled submachine guns by lamplight and continued to test-fire weapons in the narrow tunnel, thus producing 750 stands of submachine guns in the fixed date.
During the struggle for the production of wartime weapons, the heroic feats to be handed down to posterity were displayed a lot among the Kunja-ri working people.
When materials and explosive were out of stock, they carried those materials on their back from a place more than 40 kilometers off in one night and used the enemy’s time bombs and unexploded bombs to ensure the steady production. They continued to work without rest and assembled the weapons while eating uncrushed maize and salt.
Their spirit of self-reliance and the revolutionary spirit of devotedly implementing the leader’s order was recorded in the history of the great Fatherland Liberation War.
