On November 10, 2014 the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un visited the then Central Tree Nursery.
Going round greenhouses, cultivation plots, and bases for the production of humus-pots, non-woven fabric and awnings, he appreciated that the nursery has produced every year a large number of saplings needed for afforestation and landscaping by putting sapling production on a highly scientific, industrial and intensive basis.
After looking round the nursery, he set forth important tasks arising in covering the whole country with forests and flower gardens.
That day he said in a grave tone: At present, the forests of our country can be said to be at a crossroads—whether perishing for ever or being restored. There is no room for retreat on the issue of forests. The whole Party, the entire army and all the people should throw themselves into reforestation.
He said that the afforestation and protection of forests are a noble duty facing us and the greatest patriotic work for the future and everlasting prosperity of the country and it should be conducted through an all-people campaign, stressing once again that the army and people should work together to make the mountains of the country green.
After his field guidance, the whole Party, the entire army and all the people turned out for reforestation efforts to cover the mountains with green foliage.
As a result, over the past decade more than a million hectares of forests have been created and entered the growing stage, while modern tree nurseries have been built in every province, city and county and forest research bases set up across the country.
Besides, mass movements such as the movement for creating forests of socialist patriotism and the movement for winning the title of model county in afforestation have been launched throughout society, giving an impetus to the afforestation drive.
