On New Year’s Day in 2016 a grand inauguration ceremony of the Sci-Tech Complex was held in the presence of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .

After the event was over, he looked round the interior of the complex, saying that this is just a learning space for all people and a dissemination base of the latest science and technology that embody the plan of the Workers’ Party of Korea and that the door to the New Year when the Seventh Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea would be held was opened with science.

The complex in the shape of a huge atomic structure symbolic of science sits on an ideal place of the DPRK’s capital Pyongyang. It is associated with the efforts of Kim Jong Un to give everyone access to science and technology.

He had long conceived a plan to build a dissemination base conducive to making all the people well versed in science and technology. On June 1, 2014, he provided on-site guidance to the development project of Ssuk Islet on the Taedong River in Pyongyang. There and then he finally resolved to build a sci-tech dissemination centre for all people across the country and named it Sci-Tech Complex.

While indicating the detailed ways for the construction project, he said in delight that if the sci-tech complex representing our times was to be built on Ssuk Islet, it would add much to the beauty of the Taedong River and that he felt pleased to think that another springboard to lead the world would be built on the islet.

On February 26, 2015, when the soldier-builders finished the huge excavation task for the foundations and buckled down to concrete tamping, he visited the construction site.

Looking round the construction site, he said: The Sci-Tech Complex should be a house of learning and a hub for dissemination of advanced science and technology in which scientists, technicians and all other people can learn to their heart’s content; the complex should be to the people what gas stations are to automobiles, so to speak; the complex should be a hub that help constant flow of sci-tech information, not a place like a pond of stagnant water.

He underlined the need to build the Sci-Tech Complex as a world-famous structure that embodies the Party’s idea of attaching importance to science and technology, impeccable in architectural aesthetics and utility, and a dear home for everyone to acquire sci-tech knowledge.

After his visit the construction made rapid progress in the flames of creating a new Pyongyang Spirit and Pyongyang Speed. In this way it was completed in eight months as another monumental edifice.

On October 27, 2015, Kim Jong Un visited the completed complex. He expressed great satisfaction and specified the ways for making perfect preparations for its operation.

On New Year’s Day in 2016, about two months later, an inauguration ceremony took place in a grand style, fully exemplifying the Party’s idea of building a sci-tech power and a talent power.

As a sci-tech dissemination hub of national significance, the complex makes tangible contributions to implementing the Party’s idea of making all people well-versed in science and technology.
