In the DPRK greater efforts are directed to ensuring promptness, correctness and scientific accuracy in weather forecast in a bid to cope with disastrous abnormal weather.
Weather information is promptly delivered to different sectors such as agriculture that is most heavily affected by weather, via mass media and national online and mobile networks.
We are paying closer attention to improving the accuracy of forecasts to help all sectors and units take proactive measures against risks of natural disasters by weird weather patterns.
We are conducting observation on the land surface and in the upper atmosphere in a more precise way while predicting and analysing climate changes and influential variables at relevant observation points in real time. An increasing number of observation points helps improve the accuracy of information.
We are paying primary attention to scientifically analysing the features of erratic weather patterns by means of modern instruments and to decisively raising the fit rate of the short-, medium- and long-term forecasts.
By using advanced technology, we have updated the system for predicting extreme weather events and thus enhanced the fit rate onto a higher level.
We have already introduced a county-level heavy rain and flood early warning system to Songchon County, South Phyongan Province on a trial basis, and we are now working on the project to expand it throughout the country.
In addition, we are focusing on the projects to upgrade the automation of meteorological observation on the land surface on a nationwide scale and develop and introduce modern observation instruments and means.
We will continue to improve promptness, correctness and scientific accuracy in weather forecast and contribute to minimizing the damage by extreme weather conditions, protecting human lives and properties and the land and stepping up economic construction.
