There are nurseries and kindergartens across the DPRK—wherever people live and work. Each of them complies with the daily nutritious foodstuff supply standards approved by the state.
The standards specify how much of foodstuffs of tens of kinds including fish and egg should be supplied to kids every day according to ages.
The system has been in place for decades to regularly supply such foodstuffs as meat, egg, confectionery, beans and fish to the children at nurseries and kindergartens across the country in line with the standards.
With the enforcement of the new childcare policy of the Workers’ Party of Korea in recent years, dairy products are supplied to all pre-school children on a regular basis, and the previous nutritious foodstuff supply standards have been detailed more scientifically.
Age-specific standards have been renewed with the variety of nutritious foodstuffs increased and the production and supply system further improved.
Well over ten kinds of nutritious foodstuffs are regularly delivered to childcare facilities under the state supply system.
Every provincial, city and county people’s committee has a department that deals with the supply of nutritious foodstuffs. There are also units that produce them. The Pyongyang Children’s Foodstuff Factory specializes in producing powdered rice, milk, fish and vegetable among the other powder products.
Article 2 of the Law of the DPRK on Childcare adopted in February 2022 stipulates that the state shall establish a well-knit system of producing and supplying children’s nutritious foodstuffs, supply all the children with nutritious foods like dairy products for free and in a regular way and create the best conditions for their upbringing.
Children are growing up healthily and without nothing to envy under the socialist system in which the state takes full responsibility for childcare.
