The State Bacteria Preservation Institute under the State Academy of Sciences has developed a new distributed sewage treatment method by using immobilized microorganism carrier, with results proving effective in practice.
In general, sewage can be treated in various ways. Most important in the treatment is to raise the rate of purification with less consumption of equipment, materials, site and electric power by making relevant processes highly intensive.
Now, global efforts are made to develop simultaneously nitrifying and denitrifying microorganisms and establish relevant technical processes so as to reduce investment and operating cost and raise the removal rate of nitrogen in sewage treatment.
A research team at the institute has long sought a new sewage treatment method for protecting ecological environment of the country. Recently, it has developed a new treatment method by which various pollutants are removed with microorganisms staying in sewage for a long time.
The energy-saving and environment-friendly method makes it possible to solve the sci-tech problems arising in sewage treatment including the selection of simultaneously nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria capable of effectively removing nitrogen and organic pollutants from sewage even under low oxygen concentration level and cultivation of relevant microorganisms.
As it requires no special facilities, it helps save much energy and lower the cost of treatment. It can be applied to any units ranging from district-level sewage treatment plants with large volume of sewage discharge to catering establishments with smaller volume. In particular, simultaneously nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria contribute to removing any kind of organic pollutants such as ammonia nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and nitrite nitrogen.
The research team introduced the method to the Songdowon General Foodstuff Factory and other foodstuff factories, proving it to be highly effective for removing and purifying suspended solid in sewage in conformity with the state environmental discharge standard.
Now they work to expand the scope of introduction across the country.
