The Amnokgang Sports Club is known as a prestigious sports organization at home.
Last year the coaches and players of the club went a long way towards developing the country’s sports by achieving unprecedented successes in international and national competitions, in which they applied diverse tactics and displayed high physical and technical abilities.
Jon Il Chong, Kim Song Gyong and other footballers proved themselves at the 2024 AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup final and the 2024 U-17 Women’s World Cup final, creating new legendary stories and exalting the honour of the nation.
Meanwhile, Ri Jong Sik, Kang Hyon Gyong and other players won many medals, trophies and prizes at the 19th Asian Table Tennis Championships held in China’s Hangzhou in October 2024, the 33rd Olympic Games and other international competitions.
Han Il Ryong took the top spot on the podium beating all aces at the recent 20th Asian Marathon Championships, causing a great sensation in the Asian athletic circle.
Remarkable successes were also made in national competitions.
The club garnered gold medals in almost all events including football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, athletics, handball, badminton and ssirum (Korean wrestling).
It renewed records in the men’s 100-metres and 200-metres sprints at the 2024 Spring National Sports Festival and in the men’s 10 000-metres and 5 000-metres running at the DPRK Championships.
Such successes earned the club the first place in the rankings of sports clubs in 2024.
The athletes from the club stole the show at the 14th National People’s Sports Contest held in Pyongyang this April. They showcased their fortes and made the most of game tactics in football, wrestling, table tennis and other events, earning raves from sports fans and spectators.
Not resting on its laurels, the club is working to upgrade the abilities of coaches and put the training in different events on a new scientific basis.
“The glory is based on the sweat shed by athletes in training. We will bring up more competent athletes with special techniques and thereby fly our dignified national flag higher in the world,” Ri Chol Ung, manager of the club, said.
