France, United Kingdom and Canada issued a joint statement condemning Israel's criminal acts in Gaza and warned of taking further concrete actions in response unless Israel ceases the renewed military offensive and lifts its restrictions on humanitarian aid, reported the foreign media.
These countries reportedly reaffirmed, through the statement, their commitment to recognizing a Palestinian state as a contribution to achieving a two-state solution.
Strong arguments are developing among European countries that the recognition of a Palestinian state need to be accompanied by some other measures including prohibition of trade with the Israeli settlements in the West Bank- an internationally illegal act, and targeted sanctions on Israeli officials.
Diplomats and experts commented that such actions of European countries may not only pull the already divided the EU members further apart from each other but also aggravate the internal division of the West including the U.S., Israel’s strong ally.
