June 5 is the World Environment Day.
The UN General Assembly in October 1972 decided to observe the World Environment Day every year on June 5 when the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment was held in Stockholm, Sweden from June 5 to 16, 1972.
As the economy is being revitalized and people’s civilization is reaching higher level today, environmental protection has become a matter of great importance globally.
Extensive environmental damage by humans has caused three major environmental crises of climate change, loss of natural and biological diversity and pollution from wastes. All countries are actively taking part in solving these crises and building clean environment with increased awareness of the importance of environment for the future of the mankind.
Under the wise leadership of respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , significant progress is made for environmental protection by nationwide efforts.
To improve the land and environment of the country and to thickly cover the hills and fields with trees, respected Comrade Kim Jong Un saw to it that the Tree Nursery No. 122 of the Korean People's Army and the Tree Nursery of Kangwon Province were built as exemplary ones representing the present era. He also guided to build all provincial tree nurseries in line with the global trends so they make contributions to the national afforestation initiative.
The DPRK conducts afforestation on a yearly basis in a planned way under the wise leadership of Comrade Kim Jong Un . The whole country turns out to plant trees in spring and autumn and other periods suitable for tree planting.
River improvement and afforestation for erosion control are also carried out in a far-sighted manner pushing ahead the protection of the lives and property of the state and people from natural disasters such as typhoon and flood. Many successes have been achieved in wildlife conservation as well.
Environmental protection and restoration of nature are a shared mission of the humankind.
We are committed to the protection of ecosystem and land management, a patriotic undertaking for the prosperity and development of the nation and the future of coming generations. We will further accelerate the work for improving the country’s land and ecosystem.
