During the Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) the US imperialist aggressors committed the most horrific germ warfare against the Korean people, unprecedented in its barbaric nature in the world history of war.

As they repeatedly sustained severe defeats by the strong counterattack of the Korean People’s Army from the beginning of the war, the US aggressors launched a mass destructive germ warfare in violation of international law, openly saying that it is germ weapons, not generals, that bring the war to their victory.

Frank H. Schewable, Colonel of the US Marine Corps, who was directly involved in the germ warfare said that the germ warfare plan was entirely mapped out at the order of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff and that the germ warfare was further intensified in May 1952 as instructed by the 5th Wing of the US Air Force.

The US imperialists dropped a large number of germ bombs on 169 of about 200 cities and counties of the DPRK to massacre Koreans. Thus scores of kinds of bacteria were spread over a wide area.

Between November 29 and December 8, 1950, they used biological weapons to disperse a large amount of epidemic viruses and bacteria over a vast area including Pyongyang, Yangdok County of South Phyongan Province and Kowon and Jangjin counties of South Hamgyong Province.

At the intervals of 7 to 10 days they flew aircraft to drop flies, mosquitoes, fleas, mice and other biomediators infected with bacteria of cholera, pest, anthrax, paratyphoid and dysentery as well as germ-contaminated foodstuffs and daily necessities on densely populated areas, reservoirs, mountains, fields and other places across Korea.

A lieutenant colonel of the US Air Force who was taken captive by the KPA soldiers early in March 1953 wrote in his confession that he had made 96 sorties from August 1952 to March 1953, including 16 sorties on a germ warfare mission. He confessed that he had made four sorties to Sinanju between January 11 and 15 of 1953, dropping a germ bomb every time.

In a bid to develop germ weapons the US imperialists exempted the war criminals belonging to the notorious Unit 731 of the former Japanese army from standing trial after the Japanese defeat in the Second World War and in return received from them human experimentation data by germs and poisonous gases and blueprints to make germ bombs. Besides, they stepped up the research into and production of germ and chemical weapons in their country, Japan, West Germany and other capitalist countries.

As seen above, the testimonies by US POWs and historical facts show clearly the barbaric nature of the American imperialists.

A member of the commission of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers deplored that the demons in The Divine Comedy by Dante would be paled by the American ghouls and that even Hitler or Mussolini would be probably taken aback to see the horrendous US crimes in Korea.
