One day in September 2009, Chairman Kim Jong Il visited the village where Hwangjin Hot Spring was located.
He was satisfied to hear that after the area was turned into a medical treatment base with spas, mineral water sites and outdoor bath on the slope of the mountain and a spa was built even in every dwelling house, many people were constantly visiting it.
He said that the Hwangjin Hot Spring has a promising future and that arrangements should be made for the visitors to the area of Mt Chilbo to have medical treatment using the hot spring.
He stressed the need to obtain detailed information on the elements and other related data of the hot spring and enter them accurately in books like Encyclopaedia of Natural Resources for Treatment in Korea so that people could know about the Hwangjin Hot Spring. Then he inquired as to what elements the hot spring contained and whether it was a sulphureous spring.
After asking about the amount of water in the rainy season, he said that if there was no change in the water amount, there would be no restriction by season on medical treatment using the hot spring, adding that he came to know about a good hot spring and that it was regrettable that he was not informed about the sulphureous spring in the place earlier.
After looking round various places of the village for a long time, he set forth the tasks for sprucing up the village.
