The Workers’ Party of Korea gives top priority to housing construction for the good of the people among its major policy-oriented task.
The Eighth Congress of the WPK held in January 2021 unfolded a far-reaching plan for building 50 000 flats in the capital city of Pyongyang in five years. Accordingly, the downtown streets and the suburbs of the city have been facelifted and expanded beyond recognition.
Such cradles of happiness as Songhwa Street, Pothong Riverside Terraced Houses District, Jonwi Street, Hwasong Street and Rimhung Street sprang up as modern urban districts that boast a perfect harmony of architectural and formative beauty and advanced civilization, showcasing the efflorescence of the socialist civilization.
At present the fourth-stage project for building 10 000 flats is in full swing in the Hwasong area.
The WPK takes it as a task of utmost importance in socialist rural construction to transform the appearance and environment of the countryside.
Modern rural houses are mushrooming up and down the country as great efforts are being directed to building all the rural villages in the country to preserve their regional characteristics and providing the farmers with good living environment.
Meanwhile, housing construction proceeds apace in miners’ villages, fishermen’s villages and elsewhere.
All this large-scale housing construction is not designed to seek any financial profit, but it is an ennobling undertaking to turn every of the state’s assets and each fruit of the creative labour of the working masses into benefits for their own good.
As the people-first principle runs through the Party’s activities, the housing construction continues to be pushed forward in the DPRK so as to promote the wellbeing of the people.
