A joint statement between the Workers’ Party of Korea and the United Russia Party was adopted on October 9.

The joint statement was signed by Ri Hi Yong, secretary of the Party Central Committee, on behalf of the WPK, and V.V. Yakushev, secretary of the General Council, on behalf of the URP.

The joint statement says as follows:

The Workers’ Party of Korea and the United Russia Party jointly celebrated with splendour the 80th founding anniversary of the WPK, the guiding force of the heroic people of the DPRK.

Both sides reaffirmed their will to continue to develop the relations between the two parties and the two countries at a high level in the light of the ties of friendship between the peoples of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation and the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and on the basis of the agreement on exchange and cooperation between the WPK and the URP concluded in Moscow on October 25, 2018.

Both sides shared the views that the mounting political and military tension on the Eurasian continent and the rest of the world is, above all, directly linked to the aggressive politics of the West to keep maintaining at any cost its dangerous and non-constructive line to realize comprehensive hegemonism for the interests of the ruling class alone and the illegal interference in internal affairs of other sovereign states.

In this regard, the United Russia Party expressed firm support for the measures taken by the leadership of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to bolster up the country’s defence capabilities.

The WPK expressed firm solidarity with Russia’s stand on the issue of coordinating the crisis in Ukraine and full support for the special military operations being conducted by the Russian armed forces.

The United Russia Party expressed sincere thanks to the WPK and the leadership of the DPRK for making a decision on dispatching units of the Korean People’s Army to Kursk Region and taking part in the operations for liberating the region from the brigandish Kiev authorities.

The Russian people will always remember the feats of the officers and soldiers of the Korean People’s Army who displayed distinguished bravery and heroism in the fight against the occupiers.

Both sides reached a consensus of views on the common goal for jointly coping with the attempts to distort historical events and struggling against the forces disturbing peace and stability in Northeast Asia including the Korean peninsula, revival of fascism and Nazi ideas and neocolonialist acts persistently committed by the West.

It is necessary to defend and promote the establishment of a new world order in which the rights of all countries and peoples are reliably guaranteed free from coercion by the West.

Both sides expressed their intention to strengthen the ties through active dialogue between the party central bodies, between regional organizations and between the activists of the basic party cells in order to implement the already reached agreements, and planned a series of joint events including continuing and activating the exchange of delegations.

The participation of the delegation of the United Russia Party in the celebrations of the 80th founding anniversary of the WPK marked a significant occasion in further developing the relations between the ruling parties of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the Russian Federation and deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership and alliance between the DPRK and Russia.
