October 14 is World Standards Day.
Today standardization as well as technical innovation is essential to economic growth.
Many countries are channelling efforts into both R&D and standardization so as to achieve the industrialization and monopoly of technologies and gain enormous economic profits.
In contact with the International Standardization Organization (ISO), many countries are pursuing their own strategy in standardization with an eye to sustainable socio-economic development, expanding the objects, scope and contents of the standardization to such fields as IT, management and service and ensuring that relevant education is given systematically from primary school to university.
The DPRK takes it as a policy-oriented task to promote the standardization in keeping with its economic growth, sic-tech development and improvement of the people’s living standards.
It also makes sure that standards are set and updated to meet its actual conditions, sci-tech requirements and international standards and that the standards of products are established in a scientific and rational way.
The producers in machine-building, chemical and other industries are required to guarantee the quality of their products by meeting manufacturing specifications on the standards of each product.
National control over conformity assessment and examination is being tightened, with efforts made to research and apply international standards and national standards of foreign countries to meet the conditions of the country. This helps improve the quality indexes and increase the objects of standardization, bringing about a substantial change in economic development and people’s livelihood.
This year’s theme for World Standards Day is “Shared vision for a better world.”
