The Nano Engineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences has newly introduced an advanced technique of producing metallurgical biomass adhesive binder to the refractory production line of the Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex.
The biomass adhesive binder is produced when biomass such as rice chaff and saw dust is decomposed at a high speed under a certain temperature.
The metallurgical adhesive binder production based on domestic raw materials is of significance in further perfecting the Juche-based iron-making system and producing various kinds of quality refractories essential for iron and steel production at a low cost.
The scientists from the branch established the biomass high-speed pyrolysis technique, key to the research into the adhesive binder, in a Korean style and identified all indexes for its industrialization in a scientific way.
The complex successfully carried out the trial production of refractories by using the biomass adhesive binder and set up a production line with an annual capacity of more than a hundred tons, and produced a large amount of the adhesive binder in early October.
The establishment of the new technique of producing and applying the metallurgical adhesive binder with biomass abundant in the country has opened up prospects for producing various kinds of quality refractories for the metallurgical industry.
In addition, as the refractories based on the new biomass adhesive binder have begun to be used in production, it has made it possible to lengthen the serviceable life of the steel ladles and significantly reduce the heating time, thus increasing steel production.
