One day in July this year, a blind woman was admitted to the Pyongyang Municipal Ophthalmic Hospital.
She was 49-year-old Choe Sun Hui living in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang.
According to O Kyong Hui, a doctor of the hospital, her condition was very serious and her symptoms were special at that time. So medical workers of the hospital were very concerned about the patient.
O Kyong Hui observed Choe Sun Hui for several days, groping for a rational and scientific treatment method.
Choe was so cheerful and optimistic that no sign of worries about illness could be found in her.
O and other medical workers could understand on different occasions how the blind woman could live in such a bright and cheerful mood.
Choe said she had so far received particular care and affection of not only her family members but also friendly neighbours and other kindhearted people since she lost her eyesight.
One day when she said sorry to them, she added, her neighbours and others told her: “It is natural for us to help you. It is our socialist society where people are most valued and all of them live in harmony, helping each other."
Their sincerity made Choe cheerful and optimistic, O Kyong Hui said.
Since Choe was hospitalized, visitors streamed into her room every day.
They kindly asked her about health like her own flesh and blood as soon as they entered the room and appealed to the medical workers to restore her sight by all means.
O Kyong Hui said she was deeply moved by them and provided her with intensive treatment to restore her sight with a renewed determination.
At last, the day came to undo the bandages wrapped around Choe’s eyes after a month.
"I can see," she exclaimed excitedly that day.
At the time, everyone shed tears of joy.
Hearing the happy news about Choe, many people including the medical workers of the hospital were pleased as if it were their own affair, visiting the hospital day after day and sending congratulatory messages to her on the phone.
Choe Sun Hui left the hospital in August, fully recovered. But the medical workers of the hospital continue to make sincere efforts to improve her eyesight.
