The23rd Taekwon-Do World Championships were held in Italy between October 3 and 13.
The championships brought together over 1 180men and women players from more than 70 countries and regions including theDPRK, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Greece, Canada and Argentina. TheDPRK players won 74 medals including 46 golds and a trophy to come first in thecountry standings.
They took first place in the men's and women'steam pattern competitions in the senior, youth and juvenile categories, women'steam sparring matches in the senior category, men's team sparring matches inthe youth category, men's and women's self-defence routine matches in the senior,youth and juvenile categories and women's team power breaking matches in thesenior category.
Kang Song, Sin Yun Hyok, KimYu Sim, Kim Ryu Gyong and Hong Jin Gyong won the titles in the men’s andwomen’s individual pattern competitions in the senior category, Pak Su Jin,Hwang In Sim, Jong Ui Gyong and Han So Yon in the men’s and women’s individual patterncompetitions in the youth category, and Jang Chong Nam, Ri So Mi and Kim HaengBok in the men’s and women’s individual pattern competitions in the juvenilecategory.
In the senior category, Han Il Myong, Sin YunHyok and Tu Kum Song won gold medals in the men’s individual sparring event andPak Ji Hyang, Kim Yu Sim, Kim Ryu Gyong, Min Hye Gyong, Kim Yu Jong and HongJin Gyong in the women’s individual sparring event.
Pak Song Gwang, Pak Su Jin andKim Hyon Ung were placed first in the men’s individual sparring event and ChoeYun Jong, An Sol Gyong and Han So Yon in the women’s individual sparring event inthe youth category, and Hyon Jong and Kim Haeng Bok in the women’s individualsparring event in the juvenile category respectively.
Tu Kum Song and Hong Jin Gyongwon victories in the men’s and women’s individual power breaking matches in the senior category.
Sin Yun Hyok and Hong JinGyong were awarded the men’s and women’s individual technical prizes in thesenior category, Pak Su Jin and Han So Yon in the youth category and Jang ChongNam and Kim Haeng Bok in the juvenile category respectively by displaying highphysical and technical abilities.
